Preservative Biocide:
1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) is a main industrial fungicide, preservative, mildew preventive. It owns a prominent effect of restraining the microorganism such as mould (fungus, bacteria), alga(e) to breed in organic medium, which help to solve the problem of organic medium (mold, fermentation, metamorphic, demulsification, smelliness) caused by the microorganism breeding. So in the developed countries, BIT is widely used in latex products, water soluble resin, painting (emulsion paint), crylic acid, polymer, polyurethane products, photographic lotion, papermaking, printing ink, leather, lubricating oil, water treatment and daily wash supplies etc.
2-Butyl-1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BBIT)belongs to a kind of isothiazolone ketones,these compounds have a broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect against bacteria, fungi, yeasts and other microorganisms, so it is widely used in industrial circulating cooling water, adhesives,textiles, paint, paper, construction materials, leather, light industry, metal processing oil, plastics, polyurethanes, agriculture and forestry environmental protection and other fields.BBIT more focus on mildew, effective against fungi erosion, particularly in resisting high-temperature. BBIT is a good choice of fungicide for plastics, polyurethane and other polymer materials; BBIT is recommended for use in high demanding applications, especially outdoor high UV environments. It can be used for protection and surface anti-bacterial of PVC, silica gel, polyolefin, polyurethane, acrylic resin. Applications include: shower curtain / fabric coating (such as: ski clothing, raincoats, tents) / Vinyl wallpaper and floor / pool substrate / conveyor / soles and uppers / roofing membrane / wire and catheter sheath material / auto accessories( such as: hood, door seals, shock absorbers, steering wheel) / foam material (such as: cushions, gaskets, insulation materials ) / Household Appliances liner (such as: washing machines, refrigerators) / tarpaulins and awnings / antibacterial wall floor paint.
2-Methyl-1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one(MBIT) has the similar molecular structure as BIT and BBIT. They have the common characteristic such as excluding the halogen, without the stability of metallic ion, stability in the range of Ph2~12,tolerable high-temperature, lower toxicity etc. But at the same time, the functional components of the three biocides have completely different characteristic in antibiotic spectrum and bactericidal activity. BIT is mainly used for resisting the bacteria, BBIT is for fungus, while MBIT has spectrum activities both in bacteria and fungus. Microbial experiment indicates the MBIT has stronger ability in restraining fungus than BIT and bacteria than BBIT. Due to the above characteristic of MBIT, the preservative based on MBIT don’t need the extra solvent to dissolve, neither the stability of metallic ion. It can be used for pure water solution formula.
Poly(hexamethylenebiguanide)
hydrochloride (PHMB) is
used as a sanitizer or preservative to kill bacteria.
As a sanitizer, PHMB is used to preserve wet wipes; to control odor in
textiles; to prevent microbial contamination in wound irrigation and sterile
dressings; to disinfect medical/dental utensil and trays, farm equipment,
animal drinking water, and hard surfaces for food handling institutions and
hospitals; and to deodorize vacuums and toilets. As a preservative, PHMB is
used in cosmetics, personal care products, fabric softeners, contact lens solutions,
hand washes, and more. It is also widely used in evironmental disinfection including hospitals,
schools, hotels, and public places.
